Bihar becomes first state with a comprehensive silt management policy
Good news for our Bihar students. Bihar became the first Indian state to bring a comprehensive silt management policy. CM Samrat Choudhary announced the Bihar Water Source Restoration and Silt Management Policy, 2026. It targets rivers like the Ganga, Kosi, Bagmati, Kamla-Balan and Gandak, and plans to use river silt in infrastructure. Under the linked 'Nadi Sanjeevani' initiative, an MoU was signed between the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways/NHAI and Bihar to desilt rivers and reuse the sediment in national highway projects. Remember: Bihar is the "first state" here, and the rivers named — this "first-ever" plus river list is classic exam material.
Cabinet extends Fast Track Special Courts scheme to 2031
The Union Cabinet approved continuing the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs) for five more years, until 31 March 2031, with a total outlay of ₹3,788.04 crore. The number of courts will rise from 779 to 850, including exclusive POCSO courts, to speed up rape and child sexual abuse trials. Each court has a dedicated judicial officer, a special public prosecutor and support staff. Remember: the scheme was first launched in 2019 after Supreme Court directions — note the year, the amount and the court number for your polity-current affairs section.
Cabinet approves two more years of service for Agniveers

The second engagement brings higher pay, an enhanced Seva Nidhi package and seniority benefits. This came on the recommendation of the three armed services. Remember the 75:25 ratio and the term "Seva Nidhi" — defence questions use these.
